'Freed' by Sohyun L. K (Author)
Publication date - August 22, 2019
About the Book: Most heart touching collections of poetry of the year. Author's personal experience reflects throughout the poems. This book describes the human's emotional sufferings with simple but powerful words that providing healing ultimately and guiding to pearls of wisdom.
About the Arts:
The Freed series grew from my desire to move beyond wounds from the past and to find a sense of inner freedom. During this period, poetry and painting became forms of prayer—for myself, for my past, and for the parts of me that were still trying to heal.
Throughout the series, I repeatedly used a simplified fish-like form as a personal symbol. Over time, it became less an image of a fish and more a visual language for the self. Some forms are filled with color and weight, while others remain empty or transparent. The filled forms suggest memory, pain, emotion, and attachment; the transparent forms allow the world behind them to remain visible, as if the viewer could look through the self and into an inner landscape.
I did not want these paintings to describe objects. I wanted them to express states of mind. The images needed to remain simple, almost elemental, while carrying spiritual and metaphysical meaning.
For me, abstraction was more difficult than representation. When painting what I saw, the subject gave me direction. In the Freed series, there was no external answer. Every symbol, line, space, and color had to come from within.
The repeated symbols became a kind of visual prayer—a way of returning to the same wounds, memories, and questions until they could be seen differently.
I was not trying to erase the past. I was trying to empty it of its power over me.
